How to wash your Akari underwear

Designed to be worn, washed and worn again. With proper care your Akari pieces last for years, replacing hundreds of single-use products.

  1. Rinse in cold water

    Rinse straight after wear in cold water until it runs clear. This helps keep the gusset fresh and performing at its best.

  2. Gentle cold wash

    Machine wash on a cold, gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Avoid fabric softener and bleach, as they can damage the absorbent fibres.

  3. Line dry only

    Hang to dry in the shade. Do not tumble dry: heat can affect the integrity of the fabric and absorbent layers.

  4. Wear again

    That’s it. With proper care, your Akari pieces are designed to last for years, replacing hundreds of single-use products over time.

How many pairs do I need?

Find your perfect fit based on your flow:

  • 3–5 pairs: Ideal for shorter, lighter periods.
  • 5–7 pairs: Best for full-cycle coverage.
  • 7–10 pairs: Recommended for super heavy, lengthy periods and postpartum bleeding.
Is Akari safe?

Yes. Our manufacturers are OEKO-TEX® 100 certified, meaning our underwear is free from PFAS.

Trace environmental PFAS exist almost everywhere but nothing harmful is ever intentionally added to our fabrics.

Is period underwear reusable?

Yes! Our period underwear is washable and reusable. You can wear it, wash it, and wear it again, just like regular underwear.

How much do they absorb?

Akari styles are designed for light to heavy flow, depending on the cut.

  • Maisie G-String: light (10–15 ml / 2–3 tampons / 2/3 tsp)
  • Callie Mid-Rise: medium to heavy (15–20 ml / 3–4 tampons / 3/4 tsp)
  • Elora High-Waist: heavy (20–25 ml / 4–5 tampons / 5 tsp)
How do I find the right size?

We recommend following the hip measurement to find the most accurate size. Be sure to measure your hips at their widest point, your butt included.

We recommend sizing up in underwear styles that fit below the waist, or if you're looking for the most comfortable fit postpartum. The underwear should fit snugly but not so tight that it becomes uncomfortable.
